Landmark Lawsuit Against Uber for Service-Animal & Mobility-Aid Discrimination
On September 11, 2025, the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) filed a federal lawsuit — United States v. Uber Technologies, Inc. — in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. The complaint alleges that Uber and its drivers routinely denied rides to passengers with disabilities (such as those using service animals or stowable wheelchairs), imposed improper cleaning and cancellation fees connected to service-animal use, and failed to reasonably modify policies or train drivers to ensure access under the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA).
